Kristie Perez, LCSW, DSW
I am a licensed clinical social worker committed to helping adults and first responders who experience overwhelming worry, panic, social anxiety, performance anxiety, and post-traumatic stress injury. I have worked with many intelligent and high-functioning individuals who face intense and excessive anxiety, such as feelings of nausea, excessive worry, sleepless nights or dizziness when preparing to speak or perform. However, I am here to show you that it doesn't have to be this way. You don’t need to simply "push through," and I can help you alleviate those overwhelming symptoms.
My therapeutic approach focuses on identifying the root causes of your challenges and providing you with practical tools to manage and overcome them. My goal is to help you build confidence, enhance your performance, and achieve your personal and professional aspirations. I utilize both EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) in my work with clients. EMDR is particularly effective for processing traumatic memories, enabling clients to desensitize and heal from difficult experiences. CBT assists in identifying and reshaping negative thought patterns that contribute to anxiety and stress. Together, these methods have helped many of my clients develop resilience, manage their emotions, and improve their performance in both personal and professional settings. It would be an honor to work alongside you and assist you in reaching your goals.

FAQs
What types of therapy do you offer?
My primary therapy modalities include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy. Both treatments support individuals with anxiety, depression and a variety of other challenges. I work with the client to determine the best course of treatment and often times use a blend of approaches.
Why did you become a therapist?
Growing up, my father worked in law enforcement, so I spent a lot of time around first responders and veterans. I knew I wanted to work with this population, but I didn't want to be a first responder myself. I have a strong aversion to blood, so that was clearly not my calling. During college, I took a Social Work 101 class with an incredible professor who introduced me to the needs and challenges faced by this unique group. This experience inspired me to pursue both my master's and doctorate in social work. Although I worked with several non-profits supporting this population, I always felt that my true calling was in providing one-on-one therapy.
What can I expect during my first session?
You can expect to have an open and supportive conversation where we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve. I will ask questions to better understand your background, challenges, and goals. Together, we’ll establish a plan for your therapy journey, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the process.
What do you do when you aren’t being a therapist?
When I'm not working, I'm usually at home playing with my two dogs or taking a nap—I really love naps. I enjoy running and have been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) for over two years, which I find very rewarding. I also tend to binge-watch Netflix shows and listen to murder mystery podcasts more often than I'd like to admit. I make it a goal to plan something to look forward to each day, week, and month. Daily, I look forward to my morning cup of coffee. Weekly, I look forward to my BJJ classes, and monthly, I aim to plan a long weekend getaway at least once.
What is the best way to contact you?
There are multiple ways to contact me. First, you can request a consultation by clicking on the button in the top right of the screen. If no times are available, you can text or call me at 619-567-0221 or email me at info@perez-counseling.com to schedule an initial consultation. Consultations are 15 minutes and they are free.
Why should I pick you as a therapist?
I encourage everyone to meet with at least two or three therapists before making a final decision. There are many wonderful and skilled therapists available, but without a strong connection, therapy may not be as effective. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly seeking new methods to better support my clients. I am confident that I can help clients find relief from their symptoms and learn to manage their anxiety. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a consultation and determine if I would be a good fit for your therapeutic journey.
